Forge the heart of your feudal Japanese army with the Ashigaru Yumi Set, a comprehensive collection of 3D printable miniatures designed for the discerning wargamer and hobbyist. This set provides the essential ranged troops to dominate the battlefields of the Sengoku Jidai or your favorite fantasy realm. Each model is sculpted with exceptional attention to historical detail, from the lacquered plates of their armor to the determined expressions on their faces. The natural texturing of the cloth, leather, and wood ensures a rewarding painting experience.
These miniatures are perfectly scaled for 28mm and 32mm tabletop games, making them compatible with a wide range of popular wargaming systems and RPGs. The files are optimized for exceptional results on both Resin and FDM 3D printers. For maximum detail, we recommend using a resin printer, which will capture every subtle nuance of the sculpts, including the fletching on the arrows and the weave of their sandals. The set includes multiple unique poses to create a dynamic and visually interesting unit, as well as a standard-bearer to serve as the rallying point for your forces. The iconic ‘sashimono’ back-banners are provided as separate parts for ease of printing and customization, allowing you to adorn them with the mon (crest) of your chosen clan.
Historically, the Ashigaru (‘light feet’) were the foot soldiers who formed the vast bulk of a samurai daimyo’s army during the Sengoku ‘Warring States’ period (c. 1467-1615). Initially peasant levies with little training, their role evolved dramatically as warfare intensified. Ambitious warlords like Oda Nobunaga recognized their potential and transformed them into disciplined, professional soldiers. They were organized into units based on their weaponry: spearmen (yari), arquebusiers (teppo), and of course, archers (yumi).
The Yumi-wielding Ashigaru were a critical component of any battle plan. The yumi itself is a remarkable weapon, an asymmetrical longbow typically exceeding two meters in length. Its unique shape allowed for a powerful draw and was versatile enough to be used by infantry, from a kneeling position, and even from horseback. Ashigaru archers would lay down devastating volleys of arrows to disrupt enemy formations, screen the advance of their comrades, or defend fortifications. While the introduction of the matchlock arquebus in the mid-16th century changed Japanese warfare forever, the yumi remained a vital weapon due to its superior rate of fire, its effectiveness in wet weather, and the silent lethality it offered for ambushes and night raids. This set captures the spirit of these dedicated warriors, ready to unleash a storm of arrows at your command.
